The 30-Second Summary
- Since 9 October 2025, payment providers in the euro area must offer instant euro transfers at the same price as standard ones. UK Faster Payments settle in seconds, up to £1 million per payment.
- On skin and game key platforms, the transfer itself is rarely the slow part. Holding periods such as Steam’s 7-day Trade Protection and money moving between providers add the days.
- PayDo pays sellers through Mass Payments via API in EUR and GBP, from the same account that receives card payments.
The fastest way for a digital goods platform to pay sellers in Europe and the UK is an instant transfer: SEPA Instant for euros and Faster Payments for pounds. Both settle in seconds at any hour. When sellers wait days, the delay usually sits before the transfer starts.
Which payment rails pay sellers fastest
SEPA Instant and Faster Payments settle in seconds, 24/7. Standard SEPA takes up to one business day, and SWIFT can take several days.
| Rail | Currency | Speed | Availability |
| SEPA Instant | EUR | Up to 10 seconds | 24/7 |
| SEPA Credit Transfer | EUR | Same or next business day | Business days |
| Faster Payments | GBP | Seconds | 24/7 |
| SWIFT | Most currencies | Hours to several days | Business days |
A SEPA Instant transfer takes up to 10 seconds. Since 9 October 2025, payment providers in the euro area must let clients send instant euro payments and may not charge more than for a standard transfer. Providers outside the euro area follow from January 2027. Faster Payments carries payments of up to £1 million, although each provider sets its own limits.
What slows seller payouts on digital goods platforms
On digital goods platforms, payouts slow down before the transfer starts. Holding periods, card settlement and moving money between providers add days the rail itself doesn’t.
- Item holding periods. CS2 items are locked for 7 days after a trade, so skin platforms pay sellers after that window.
- Card settlement. Buyers’ card payments take time to reach the account you pay sellers from.
- Transfers between providers. If card acceptance and payouts sit with different providers, the money moves twice.
- Name mismatches. Since October 2025, euro transfers come with a payee name check. A seller name that doesn’t match the IBAN holder can trigger a warning.
- Manual payout runs. Approving each payout run by hand ties payouts to office hours.
How to pay sellers in different countries
Pay euro sellers by SEPA Instant, UK sellers by Faster Payments and the rest by SWIFT. Collect the account holder’s exact name with each seller’s account details at signup.
Large digital goods platforms already work this way: G2G and OffGamers pay sellers in more than 100 countries.
- Ask sellers for their payout currency and account details at signup.
- Check that the account holder name matches the seller’s verified name.
- Set a minimum payout amount to keep transfer costs down.
- Trigger payouts through an API when an order clears its holding period.
- Publish the payout schedule so sellers know when to expect money.
Seller payouts after Steam Trade Protection
CS2 items received in a trade are locked for 7 days, and the trade can be reversed during that time. Skin platforms that buy from sellers pay them after the window closes.
A reversal undoes all protected trades from the past 7 days and puts the account on a 30-day trading cooldown. Counter-Strike 2 is currently the only game on Steam with Trade Protected items, so Dota 2 trades follow Steam’s standard rules.
Set the payout trigger to the end of the protection window. Keep the trade ID with each payout so you can match a reversal to the payment it affects. More on this in what Trade Protection does to a skin store’s costs.
Why PayDo fits digital goods platforms paying sellers
PayDo pays sellers through Mass Payments via API in EUR and GBP, from the account that receives your card payments.
- Payouts in seconds. PayDo is a direct member of SEPA and SEPA Instant, so euro payouts settle in seconds.
- Money moving twice. Card payments through PayDo Checkout land in the account that sends Mass Payments, with no transfer between providers.
- Payout runs by hand. Mass Payments via API start from your platform when an order clears its holding period.
- Sellers outside the UK and euro area. SWIFT transfers in other currencies go from the same Business Account.
- Card acceptance for buyers. Around 3% for gaming and digital goods platforms, as a direct Visa and Mastercard Principal Member.
- Launch. Business account in 3–5 business days, with one dedicated account manager.
Стало: PayDo is authorised by the FCA in the UK and the MFSA in Malta and registered with FINTRAC in Canada. It is PCI-DSS Level 1 certified for card payments and keeps client funds at tier-1 European banks, separate from its own.
